Sharp police work this weekend led to the apprehension of some very dangerous men who were strapped like Al Qaeda terrorists.
The events started out early on Saturday night when Edward Flores reported to police that he was socializing at the Ex-Servicemen's League on when his brown Toyota Cressida was stolen. And all points bulletin was put out, and a police patrol saw the car in the area of Antelope Street extension. Police blocked the road, forcing the car to stop. That's where one of the occupants got out and run, while the other 3 were detained. Inside the car, police found a stash of high-powered firearms, ammunition and bizarre Halloween masks. The guns are an AK-47 rifle, a tech 9 machine gun, and a nine millimeter pistol along with 24 live rounds for the AK, 25 rounds for the tech 9, 1 bullet proof vest, 2 hoods, 4 rubber gloves and the two masks.
Two of the men found with this cache are well known to police: they are 24 year old Micah Thompson and Sheldon Tillet and 19 year old Brian Herrera, all from the George Street area. They appeared before Magistrate Sharon Fraser where they were read charges of 2 counts of a prohibited firearm, 2 counts of kept prohibited ammunition, 1 count of handling stolen goods, 1 count of going equipped and 1 count of keeping an unlicensed firearm. Because of the involvement of prohibited firearms, Magistrate Sharon Fraser decided to remand them until November 15th.
