Three hours after that shooting, around 2:00 pm, police were called out to Welch Street, where they found Stanley Coleman lying in a drain with a single gunshot wound to his neck. Area residents told us that Coleman was standing up when a lone gunman rode up on bicycle and shot him once at close range. Just minutes later, a police patrol team in the West Canal Area spotted a suspect that matched the description of the bicycle-riding gunman. Police say they tried to detain him, but he refused to stop for questioning. Instead he started to high tail it on his bicycle and that's when he fell to the ground and police say he reached into his pants suspiciously and they fired two shots in response, one of them injuring him in his calf. But he continued to run and police say he then tossed an object into an open lot, which they were unable to recover. One area resident, who wished to appear off camera told us what she saw.

"I was sitting down out here, I sitting chilling and thing, and I see a young man come up so I see the police come and start to harass the young man. So when they harassed him I see he (the police) take it his gun and started to fire shots after the young man. The young dropped and when the young man drop, he hurry get up and left his bicycle and run. The police still fired shots after him and then he went down. So when I he went down the police still kept firing and a lot of people were out here. A young lady was out here and she could have got shot because the policeman just took out his gun and started to shoot like he was crazy and a lot of children were out here. He could have hurt children and he could have hurt somebody, the lady started to get pressure and they had to take her home because she thought she was shot. I just ran inside because it could have caught me or one of the infants. I was out here with my young baby and actually I was putting her to sleep and when I sit down out here and I saw the shots I didn't know what to do because I got so frightened and up to now I am still shaky."
The suspect is recovering in the hospital and remains under police guard pending charges.
