Two weeks ago, Phillip Tillet was found guilty of the stabbing death of Kirk Belisle, which occurred on June 17 of 2003. On Monday, he received his sentence. Fr. John Stochl and Prison Officer Mark Myvette who made mitigation pleas on his behalf attested to Tillett's changed character and his choice for a better life. Taking these into consideration in passing sentence, Justice Troadio Gonzalez said that life imprisonment would best serve in tempering justice with mercy. And with that Tillet escapes the hangman's noose.
