We know Assistant Superintendent of Police Edward Broaster as the tough talking street cop with a soft poetic side. Well now you can call Broaster the award winning poet. Broaster is back from Orlando Florida where he was honored with a merit award for outstanding achievement in poetry from the International Society of Poets. Broaster won the award for his poem "thinking." With his medal around his neck and trophy on his desk the proud poet told us it feels great to be recognized by his peers in the international literary community.
Edward Broaster, Honoree
It feels great to be among an international group and being awarded outstanding award for my poetry. The exposure for me was great and I believe that I have been recognized by an international body which is a great achievement in itself."
Keith Swift,
What does the recognition mean for Broaster, the poet, in terms of what does this do for you and the poet within you?
Edward Broaster,
"Well it does a great deal because one I'll continue to write and I attended some lectures while I was there in Orlando and I believe that experience will help me to enhance my writing as a poet."
Broaster was among 36 poets from around the world who were honored with the achievement award. Never one to rest on his laurels, Broaster says he is now working on a volume of short stories. You can expect more poems from him next year.
