It's a pitiful site: a 7-year-old girl from Hattieville Village is tonight fighting for her life at the KHMH after being knocked down. Hattieville resident, Floreth Requena today told us that her daughter Skyler was riding her bicycle on the Western highway on Sunday after a softball game in the village when she was knocked down by a pickup truck that did not stop. Now the family is left with the double dilemmas of having a gravely injured child and not knowing who to blame.

Floreth Requena and Herlant Sanchez today stand at the bedside of their 7-year-old daughter Skyler hoping and praying that she recovers from injuries she received on Sunday evening.
Floreth Requena, Mother
"We were at softball in Hattieville and when we were leaving from there, she and her stepbrother and uncle rode like 5 minutes ahead of us because we stopped at the Chinese shop to get something to drink; we were right behind them. The vehicle, according to eyewitness, the vehicle hit her because she was off the road on the street side and the vehicle hit her. It never did stop and the eyewitness says the vehicle was swerving across the street. According to eyewitnesses she was flung up and she ht her head on the stone. According to the doctor, the police went to pick him up and a female doctor was coming from Belize City at the same time and she stopped and she felt the baby pulse. She had a weak pulse and that was what she was living on and so she advised them to take them to the hospital."
Now this mother and father stand at Skyler's bedside in total disbelief. Floreth says the past three days have been total anguish especially because they don't know who hit their child.
Floreth Requena,
"Three long hard days. It feels rough believe me. I didn't expect I would be in this situation here. All the time I hear people talking and I know how they feel. Believe me I know how they feel and it is rough for me, especially like how this person didn't stop and offer help or nothing. All we want to find out is about the vehicle. If anybody has any information about the vehicle or the glass and they if they know the person that drives the vehicle just call and give us some information."
At the moment all these parents know is that the vehicle was a blue green pickup truck which hit their daughter so hard, that the impact ripped off the right side door's mirror. No one on the scene was able to get the license plate of the truck which has this child barely clinging to life.
Floreth Requena,
"She doesn't look that good and she is just barely clinging on. The doctors are trying their best. They left her on the heart machine to breathe and thing. We have to wait and see. The doctor can't tell us anything now because she is still in the coma from Sunday, a deep coma. Half of her body really isn't moving; it isn't operating. Only a half is moving and the doctor says that is a good sign, it's just for her to come out of coma. The skull went in and they have to operate on her. We took her over to Medical Associates and they gave her the operation from there."
Alfonso Noble,
So she has been through surgery already?
Floreth Requena,
"Yes and in two weeks the doctor says she'll need another one."
That's in two weeks and until that time, all the parents can do is stand vigil at their first born's bedside.
Requena says that anyone with information can contact her at phone number 602-1342. She says she'll also need assistance for her daughter's second surgery that is scheduled to be done in two week's time.
