Police and fire authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that completely destroyed the thatch shed that was on Goff's Caye. The Coastal zone Management Authority and Institute which manages the island found out about the fire on Friday night. Today, the CZMAI's Virginia Vasquez told us what the loss means and what the plan to do about it.

"The thatch roof structure set up by the CZMAI was burnt down on Thursday night. We received the report on Friday night and we then undertook a validation inspection tour on Saturday and cleaned up this weekend. The significance for the organization is immediately we need to look for an alternative solution for that structure. For example renting a tent or organizing some form of shelter for the tourists because tomorrow we will be having visitation from cruise ship tourists."
Vasquez says that she is unable to comment on how the fire started because the matter is presently under investigation.
