At newstime a jury was deliberating the fate of 48-year-old taxi-man Dennis Gabourel who is accused of raping his ex-girlfriend, not once but twice and then beating her. The jury went into deliberations shortly after 4 pm and a verdict is expected later tonight.
The first rape allegedly occurred on September 18th of 2003. The victim who is a nurse at the KHMH said she asked Gabourel to take her home but instead he took her to the hangar area. There she claims he forced her to the back of the van and raped her. The next morning she said Gabourel showed up at her back door around 7:30 am and forced his way in. Once inside she claims her beat her unconscious. She woke to find him again raping her.
In court Gabourel gave unsworn testimony from the dock and admitted to having sex with the victim but claims it was at all times consensual. He gave no explanation for her swollen face and blood shot eyes which a doctor classified as wounding. We'll have the verdict of that trial for you on Monday.
