A Chinese man and his girlfriend were busted yesterday afternoon selling beer to a primary school student.

Police say that just after midday, around 12:05, they were patrolling on Basra Street in an unmarked vehicle when they saw 33-year-old Gui Siang Zhang selling a Guinness Stout to the boy who was dressed in his school uniform. It happened inside Heng Loon Grocery at the corner of Basra and Tigris Street. Officers say the boy handed Zhang a $5 ill and ordered a Guinness and an ideal. They claim Zhang handed him the Guinness in a black plastic bag and put in the ideal. As she handed him the bag, they took the plastic bag away and placed cuffs on Zhang.

She was charged with prohibition of sale of liquor to a person under 18. Her common-law husband, who owns the store, 35-year-old Zhaoqui Lu was also charged. In court today Zhang pleaded guilty and was fined $500 plus court costs. She has to pay it by the end of the month. Her boyfriend pleaded not guilty.
