He is accused of stealing one hundred 5-cent coins amounting to $5 from his neighbor's house, but 19-year-old Jerdean Jorgenson says it wasn't him. As we reported last night, police were patrolling in the Kraal Road area early on Christmas morning when they allegedly found Jergenson coming out of a jar with a glass jar filled with five-cent coins. The coins added up to $5 dollars and he was charged with burglary. Today Jergenson who burst his lip while struggling with police told us that the officers, in fact, caught him coming home from the club and he didn't have any coins on him.
Jerdean Jergenson, Charged with Burglary
"They are accusing me of something I don't even know about. I was coming home from the dance, I even showed them the stamp on my hand to prove I had just left from the Eden Nightclub and they still said they caught me red-handed coming out of the yard with some change in a cup when they know that is wrong. All I had in my pocket was $12 and my cell phone. The whole story which they are trying to say is bogus. I would never think of breaking into anyone's house, especially my neighbor, and take $5 in five cents; I am bigger than that. They have accused me wrongfully."
We also spoke to one of Jergenson's neighbor, Floyd Jones who verified the story. Jergenson is out on three thousand dollars bail and he will have the chance to tell his story to a Magistrate when he reappears in court on January 18th.
