The Creole Bram: it's a time honored Christmas tradition that's sadly been overtaken by a more North Americanized interpretation of the season, where the singing of homogenized christmas carols has overtaken the part-taking in home made brukdown music and the revelry that accompanies it. And that's why the Institute for the Creative Arts and First Caribbean International Bank staged the Wilfred Peters Brokdong Competition on Friday night, December twenty third. Yesterday First Caribbean Bank handed ICA Director William Neal a $5,000 checque on behalf of winner Kenny Morgan, who pulled off the hat trick, winning for best new artist, artist of the year, and song of the year. That's quite a sweep, and we'll say, quite deserving and to prove it to you, here's that winning song, or most of it.
Last year's artists of the year Leela Vernon also earned two prizes for the song Belizean Celebrations. She was first runner up and won a special award for lyrical content. And the evening wouldn't have been complete without the legend, Mr. Peters himself who performed his classic, "Run peters run." There were 10 contenders in this year's event, the second annual.
