A 52 year old Salvadoran national was killed in a hit and run accident last night on Mahogany Street. Sometime after nine, 52-year-old Rafael Magana was riding his bicycle on Mahogany Street when a Nissan pickup truck hit him from behind. The collision launched him into the air, and when he fell he suffered numerous broken ribs which punctured his lung. He died shortly after. We spoke to Magana's common law wife Francisca Milla who explained in Spanish that he had just left her home when she got the news that he'd been knocked down.

Francisca Milla,
[Translation] "When they came to tell me they said he had been knocked down. When I reached the hospital, he was in the hands of the doctors. Two hours after he died. He left at nine last night he was around the Complex building that's where he was knocked down. He was going to his room to rest when they suddenly came to tell me that he had been knocked down. When the young man knocked him down he just left him there and left. There were people who saw him and told the police who it was and he was at the hospital with the police."

Police have detained 21-year-old Lazaro Murillo who has been identified as the driver of the gray Nissan pickup truck that hit Magana. He fled the scene after hitting Magana. Nonetheless he's expected to be charged after police investigations into the matter are concluded. Magana's family is planning to have his body taken to his home country of El Salvador for burial.
