He is accused of illegally importing five racehorses estimated to be valued at $60,000 each and tonight 48-year-old Charles Davidson is out on bail and his horses are sitting in the BAHA compound in Orange Walk.

He was busted on Tuesday when, acting on information, police searched Davidson's

pickup truck and the attached 44-foot trailer as he drove from Orange Walk to Ontario Village in Cayo. Inside the trailer were the five horses. Davidson claims he purchased the horses in Blue Creek Village in Orange Walk but the Customs Department and the Belize Agricultural and Health Authority disagreed, so police charged him with importation of livestock without a valid permit. He appeared in Orange Walk Magistrate's Court on Wednesday where he pleaded not guilty. He was offered and met bail of $5,000 plus one surety. He reappears in court on February 20th. Davidson is a Mennonite and is a self-described "cotton rearer." No word yet on what BAHA will do with the $60,000 horses.
