And while new beginnings might shun their gospel label, another artist named "Theophilos" embraces his. His real name is Omar Rodriquez and on the eve of releasing his first album called 'Rain,' the 26 year old has released a video for the title track. He visited our studios yesterday and dropped off a copy. He told us why he gets inspiration from his music.
Omar Rodriquez, Gospel Artist
"What I sing about is my personal relationship with God and my personal experiences and I relate that to the public as understandable as possible. I am not a preacher so I sing about my relationship with God in my personal life. When people hear gospel they think basically that it is boring and gospel music has come a long way from religious music being just boring church songs, hymns, and stuff like that. It has evolved into hip-hop, dancehall, reggae, and that type of stuff. There's nothing boring about it, its just positive, upbeat music you could relate to. The video is a video that we filmed with the title track rain and basically it's in a rural setting, it's like a natural typesetting and stuff. It was filmed at Youth with a Mission in Roaring Creek."
Rain will be in stores shortly.
