Like thousands of other teenagers, 19 year old Eric Garoy will spend the Easter away from home but he won't be on vacation: he'll be in jail! And why? After all, he's only charged for the possession of.5 grams of marijuana, that's just one tenth of an ounce! But the charge he faces has nothing to do with the time he'll spend in jail.
What happened is, Garoy was supposed to be at court at 9:00 this morning for his hearing, but he was late; he reached court at 9:30. In the view of Magistrate Harrison Huelett he showed no remorse and offered no apology for being late. With that Huelett ordered him to be remanded until Tuesday April 18th, the day after Easter Monday. Garoy protested loudly and refused to leave the courtroom. He was then forcibly removed from the courtroom by four police officers who took him to the holding cell. Garoy was picked up on March 3rd of 20 after police saw him throw a small object to the ground when they approached. That small object turned out to be the 0.5 grams.
If his title sounds familiar, Garoy is the brother of Lisa Garoy the young mother who was recently partially paralyzed by a bullet to her spine.
