Today was observed as World Health Day under the theme "working for health." This year's celebration focuses on personnel working in the provision of health care service areas. Prime Minister Said Musa acknowledged them and underscored the strenuous conditions under which health care personnel work.

Rt. Hon. Said Musa, Prime Minister of Belize
"This year's theme, 'working together for health,' allows us to examine the shortcomings in human resources for health in Belize and offers the opportunity to honor and pay homage to one of the most important resources for health, our health workers. There are more than 2,184 health workers in both the public and private sectors in Belize from the policy makers, the health planners, specialized physicians, nurses, nurse aide, pharmacists, and technicians, the cooks, and the janitors who under sometimes difficult circumstances selflessly give their time and energy to ensure hat the health needs of our country are met. It also gives us an opportunity mark our achievement and identify the gaps that need to be addressed in order to offer quality healthcare to all Belizeans."

The Ministry of Health also launched a 3 step training program for environmental health officers as well as an observatory for human resources in health.
