On Wednesday, UDP councilor Mark King dropped a bomb on the Mayor's Office when he wrote a letter threatening to resign, and cautioning the Mayor that she is quote "losing it." King's angry letter went to the Mayor after he found out that Moya had hired Pamela Smith to act as the cash strapped council's financial controller for $5,333 a month, for three months. Mayor Moya flatly denied that and said that Smith is working voluntarily. Today, in her first interview since the Mark King debacle, Moya said that the intra-council dispute has been squashed but she wouldn't say much else.
Zenaida Moya,
"I wouldn't want to speak out anything about Mark King because that issue has been settled."
Keith Swift,
In what sense? He threatened to resign because you brought on Pamela Smith.
Zenaida Moya,
"As I mentioned, that issue has been settled. Currently as I had mentioned before, Miss Smith is volunteering at the moment. She is doing a wonderful job in terms of assisting."
Keith Swift,
So Miss Smith is on for three months?
Zenaida Moya,
"Miss Smith is currently assisting right now in terms of she is not currently being paid."
Keith Swift,
Will he be punished for speaking out?
Zenaida Moya,
"That issue has been settled and we're moving on. We have work to do. We have streets to pave, we have the crime situation, we have jobs to find, we want beautification of the city, we want for young people, for old people, for everybody and that is what we are concentrating on. Again I'll say, we are a new council, we have work to do, and at the end of he day the bottom line is we have to ensure that the work gets done."
Keith Swift,
Mark King basically said that you are losing it. Your response to that.
Zenaida Moya,
"Well I don't know if anybody would look at me and say I am losing it so that is all I have to say."
