He escaped jail last month when a jury acquitted him of the attempted murder and robbery of businessman Phillip Galaty and last night Aniver Palacio escaped from gunmen who wanted him dead. The 26-year-old Palacio says that around 6:55 pm was standing in front of King's Restaurant on Central American Boulevard when Elvis "Viny" Hamilton and Ellsworth "Tuku" Jones rode up. Palacio claims that Hamilton took out a black gun and pointed it in his direction. Palacio says he attempted to flee but Hamilton got off a couple shots. One of the shots hit Palacio to the left side of his upper back and another to the right side of his neck. It didn't end there because a now wounded Palacio claims he tried to jump a drain and that's when Hamilton stood over him and fired a third and near fatal shot to the left side of Palacio's head.

It's a miracle that Palacio survived and he spent today in surgery at the KHMH where doctors have been trying to repair his trachea and we note the bullet is still lodged in him. As for his attackers, Officer Commanding Crimes Investigation Branch in Belize City ASP Chester Williams explains they have 26-year-old Elvis Hamilton and Ellsworth Jones.

"Around 8 pm last night, the police were called to the area of Central American Boulevard, near Del Monte, where on arrival, Aniver Palacio was seen lying in a drain suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body. He was subsequently transported to the KHMH where underwent treatment and is still admitted in a stable condition. The doctors, after taking x-rays of the injuries, diagnosed that he received merely flesh wounds and is not life threatening. And again the quick response of the police and assistance of the community resulted in the apprehension of the two suspects, Ellsworth Jones and Elvis Hamilton. They were both later that day charged for the attempted murder of Aniver Palacio and likewise for dangerous harm and the use of deadly means of harm."

Both Ellsworth Jones and Elvis Hamilton were charged with attempted murder, grievous harm and dangerous harm. They were remanded to the Hattieville prison until May 10th.
