Another man who was going on his own ride across Belize had his little tour interrupted by police. On Tuesday, Florida Auto Sales managers reported to police that sometime around noon on that day a male Hispanic entered the establishment and asked to test ride one of their scooters. The secretary then filled up the motor bike with gas, pumped the tires and placed a battery in it for his "test ride. But the test ride turned into a joy ride, when the man jumped on to the bike and rode off into the sun-hot. Muhammed Hamze from Florida Auto Sales told us what happened.
Muhammed Hamze,
"Somebody came to buy a motorcycle and nobody was here, only the secretary and the mechanic. So they told her that if they are going to buy it, they have to try it and so the girl gave them key and the motorcycle is a new motorcycle so she put gas for him and the guy asked the secretary if he could try it inside the yard. She told him yes but the man went with the motorcycle outside and he didn't come back. We sell it for $4,000."
Alfonso Noble,
So within a few seconds you lost $4,000.
Muhammed Hamze,
"I don't know, we lost."
Alfonso Noble,
So you don't normally make people take test rides with the vehicle?
Muhammed Hamze,
"No we don't usually...with the vehicle yes, when they want to buy a vehicle, they could take it to the mechanic and so. But those motorcycles are new so we don't give test drives with the motorcycles, we give guarantees when they buy. The secretary said he came with this bag but we searched the bag, police searched the bag, and nothing was in the bag."
Alfonso Noble,
What's in the bag?
Muhammed Hamze,
"Only used clothes. I don't think he will come back for it. I don't think because if he has a $4,000 motorcycle, what will he do with this bag."
Orange Walk Police have since detained a man with a yellow and black scooter in that district. He is held pending charges.
