He had been sentenced to life in prison after he killed his wife back in July of 2003 in Stann Creek District. Today Anthony Pop had that sentence quashed and an alternate sentence of manslaughter imposed. Instead of the life sentence he was handed down a 20 year sentence by the Appeals Court today.

Key in the Appeal's Court decision to reduce the sentence was an un-sworn statement Pop had given at the time of his conviction. At the time Pop told the Supreme Court that he had killed his wife because she told him that a son who was graduating at the time was not his. That was considered extreme provocation and his sentence was reduced on that basis.
