The PUP convention season continued this weekend with 6 more conventions.

One of the most fiercely contested races was in Belize Rural North where 1,312 voters turned out to vote in the successor to Max Samuels. Not surprisingly, on his home turf of Rancho Dolores, Chairman of that village and Max Samuels favorite, Elvin "Bob Rancho" Perez emerged victorious, easily outmatching Nicky Nicholson's 313 votes and Dwight Gillet's 311.

Another important race was held in Corozal southwest where incumbent Dr. Greg Garcia held off challenger Ramiro Ramirez, by a margin of 752 votes to 487 votes.

In Cayo northeast, former San Ignacio Mayor Orlando Habet beat Joe Lisbey by a margin of 364 votes, 481 to 117.

While those were the contested conventions, three candidates were also endorsed: in Collet, Carolyn Trench Sandiford was installed; in Orange Walk North, Servulo Baeza got the nod and in Corozal north, Valdemar Castillo was endorsed.

The biggest race of the conventions season comes up on Sunday, when PUP deputy leader and three-time minister Vildo Marin faces what party insiders say is a formidable challenge from newcomer Freddy Ewens.
