A pair of masked and armed men burglarized an Esso Gas Station in Punta Gorda town on Sunday morning and to do it they beat the security guard until he was unconscious and then threw him into a garbage bin.
54-year-old Sebastian Coc told police that around 3 am he was in the bathroom when he was accosted by a man who pointed a small handgun in his face. Coc wrestled for control of the gun, causing an errant shot to be fired. No one was injured but that's when the second assailant appeared. Both men brutally beat and kicked Coc. And if that wasn't enough, for good measure, the men hit Coc in his head with a blunt object. Coc was knocked out and that's when they threw him into the garbage bin.
Coc eventually regained consciousness and got out of the garbage and discovered that the gas station had been burglarized. $6,500 in cash and checks were stolen. Police recovered one spent point 25 shell from the scene. Coc had to be hospitalized after the violent encounter.
