When it comes to high school proms, Wesley College's annual promenade in front of the Radisson Hotel is the gold standard. Every year Wesley College graduates never fail to surprise with grand entrances. And that was the legacy on the shoulders of the class 06 on Friday night. Despite the deluge of rain, the show did go on but did they measure up? We'll let you decide.

Keith Swift Reporting,
In most cities on a rainy night like tonight, most residents would have been in their beds sleeping. But this isn't a regular city - this is Belize City. On Friday night that meant that the torrential rain that fell on the city wasn't enough to deter spectators from the spectacle of prom night. Most came equipped with umbrellas - this lady had a giant beach umbrella. There were those who found refuge anywhere - like these kids who found a dry spot on the top of this picnic table. And then of course there were those who didn't have any raincoat or any umbrellas. They also didn't have any problem with getting wet.

And while it didn't affect the spectators, the rain did dampen Friday night. There were no dancers, no skits, and no elaborate entrances on the street this year. But even without those - this show did go on.

Naja Smith: I'm just nervous but it was fun. I was all excited and everything.
KS: Do you feel like a celebrity?
Naja Smith: Kind of.
KS: How about you?
Stephen Panton: Very famous.
KS: Why do you think all these people are out here?

Stephen Panton: Over the years they have just made prom a big thing.

Marcy Ford: I'm a little nervous and a little excited.
KS: You felt any pressure coming into tonight?
Marcy Ford: Not really, the most hectic thing was getting the dress and everything. But I didn't feel any pressure.

Delanie Broaster: I'm nervous and excited.
KS: Is this what you thought prom night would be like?
Delanie Broaster: Yes.
KS: What was it like getting out and seeing all those people out there?
Delanie Broaster: I was scared and very very nervous and they were cheering me on and smiling and stuff so I felt pretty.

And as far the entrances went Cristal Humes and her date Cody Noralez were ahead of the pack. They brought the entire marching band from St. Luke's Primary School to the Radisson. Cristal says her entrance was supposed to be religious but the rain changed everything.

Cristal Humes,
"It was supposed to be a Christian entrance and there were supposed to have angels and fairies, visions from heaven but the rain sort of messed it up. I didn't really plan an entrance and I didn't really anticipate coming to the prom but after I decided I would, that's when I thought of it."

Keith Swift,
So how you feeling?

Cristal Humes,
"Kind of nervous."

It was nerve wrecking as for the first time in most of their lives - the spotlight shone directly on them. It was for one night only. A once in a lifetime opportunity and these youths were savoring every minute of.

Crystal Humes and her date Cody Noralez who brought along the marching band from St. Luke's Primary School won the prize for best entrance.
