She is a popular singer and dancer famous for her commanding stage presence, but tonight 22-year-old Ernestine Carballo isn't in the news for her talents. The songstress was today formally charged with theft for allegedly stealing $250 from, of all places, the pocket of a charity. Habitat for Humanity and Lifeline charity's accountant Felice Williams told police that on September 29th she was at a function and Old Belize when she asked Carballo to hold an envelope for her containing $250. Williams says she went to the bathroom but when she returned, Carballo was nowhere to be found. She caught up with Carballo about ten minutes later. Carballo handed back Williams the envelope but according to Williams, only $39 was inside. Police yesterday charged Carballo with theft. Carballo, who is also an itinerant teacher working out of the Institute of Creative Arts, was released on $2,500 bond. She is due back in court on November 22nd.
