We told you about it last night and today, Ursula Hill was arrested. She is the immigration officer turned secretary who was supposed to spill the beans on her former boss Gabby Affif. She was to have been the star witness for the DPP's office against Gabby Affif in Belize's biggest immigration scandal ever. But those beans never quite spilled the way the DPP would have wished and now Hill has gone from star witness to prime suspect. Today she appeared in Magistrate's Court where she was read two charges: giving contradictory evidence and fabricating evidence. After receiving bail, Hill was defiant; she told us she feels that she's being prosecuted maliciously.
Ursula Hill,
"Well if you read the Bible it tells you that the Lord said vengeance is mine and the DPP considers himself God and what he really didn't want in court is the truth so by charging me, I guess now the nation will hear the truth because I will hold nothing back. It is me against him in court and whatever I have to say to defend my self, that will be said. Whatever I have to say because I know that I did not fabricate and I did not contradict anything. He got his case, he lost his case because he wanted to lose it and now I have to pay. Well I am not going to pay."
Alfonso Noble,
What they are saying is that basically you had given a statement saying something and when you went on the stand, you said something else, you fabricated the evidence and you in fact implicated yourself.
Ursula Hill,
"Nobody can say I fabricated evidence. I gave the evidence so only me know what is the truth and when I reached in court, I said the truth but they didn't want to hear the truth."
Alfonso Noble,
So this is different from what you had given them earlier on?
Ursula Hill,
"No what I gave them in statement form, I also said in court, just that he didn't ask the questions to get a conviction and I am not supposed to do his job. He is the one to do his job. So if you don't ask questions, you don't get answers."
Alfonso Noble,
You think this is just malicious?
Ursula Hill,
"He is being malicious and you can expect him to come up with more charges. These are not the only charges that he will come up with. He will come up with more and he will go on and on until he is satisfied. But whatever he is willing to charge me with, I am willing to stand up with him. All I can say to the DPP is bring it on and the nation will hear the truth about those passports because there is more to those passports than he is saying."
Hill was offered and met bail of 6 thousand dollars or two sureties of three thousand dollars each. She is to reappear on the 21st of November.
