Two months ago, on September 17th, Kenroy Gladden proved his worth as one of Belize's elite athletes when he came in second in the Lionman Triathlon. For the former champ, it was a return to form after a disappointing 11th place finish in 2005. But, the former champ, won't be able to fully regain his past glory in 2007 because he'll be in jail. That's right the 26 year old was today sentenced to two and half years hard time.

In April of 2005, he attacked orange vendor Santiago Reyes - who he chopped with a machete across his arms. He was charged with attempted murder and appeared before Justice Troadio Gonzalez where he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of grievous harm.

In court, Port Loyola area representative Anthony "Boots" Martinez offered a mitigation plea in which he praised Gladden for his contribution to sports. Gladden himself asked the court for mercy explaining that the incident arose from a family dispute.

Gladden's incarceration begins immediately. He was represented by Anthony Sylvestre Jr. while Kamar Henry prosecuted.
