And while Garifuna language may need translation, Garifuna dances do not, those are "spoken" across Belize and across cultures. The universal appeal of those dances was amply demonstrated on Sunday night at the Bliss Center when the Ballet National Folklorico Garifuna performed. The 30-year-old dance company comes from Honduras and is led by legend Armando Cresanto Melendez. It comprises 15 performers who depict religious and folkloric themes. The event was sponsored by the National Garifuna Council as part of the activities leading up to the 19th and we leave you tonight with highlights of what was a powerful performance.
