A Police Constable is recovering from a head wound after intervening in a New Year's Day domestic dispute.
At 4 on New Year's morning, two Orange Walk constables responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Guinea Grass Village. When they arrived at the home of Eduardo and Cynthia Moralez, they found 28 year old Eduardo in a drunken rage threatening 21-year-old Cynthia with a hammer. When the police came, he struck Constable Kenny Cano with the hammer. Cano fell to the ground, and Moralez was about to club him some more, when the other constable shot Moralez in the leg. Both Cano and Moralez were treated. Cano was released, while Moralez is recovering, but is held pending charges.
