And just a few hours after the anti-crime protest was finished, there was a murder on the very street where the children had marched. The victim is 27-year-old Demsely Arnold. He was a working man, and in fact had just left his work place when he was executed in the street. Here's what we found out.
Alfonso Noble Reporting,
Demsley Arnold worked here at Integral Health Services, at the corner of Currasow and Gibnut Streets where he was a lab technician. He left work 3:00 pm, and was here, three blocks away at the corner of Magazine Road and Vernon Street when he was attacked.
Eyewitnesses say he was walking his bike when two men on foot came up to him, and in the plain view of the mid afternoon, pulled out what appeared to be a pistol and shot him three times in the chest at close range. They ran off and left him for dead. He held on for a bit though, and was pronounced dead on arrival shortly after arrival at the KHMH.
Today crime scene investigators picked up the shells at the scene, while his relatives and co-workers rushed to the KHMH - in stunned and saddened disbelief that their co-worker of 6 years had been killed. His girlfriend Gaynor Richards could hardly speak.
Gaynor Richards,
"I don't know. He is supposed to be at work. It could possibly be a robbery, he wears a lot of jewelry but all his jewelry is there, nothing is gone, all his jewelry is there."
And today that was the sentiment among these, his co-workers to whom he was a loved colleague.
Arnold had worked at integral for 6 years. Police have one person detained who they believe may be able to assist in the investigation.
