On Friday we told you about the stunning mid afternoon murder of 27 year old Demsley Arnold. Arnold was a working man - and he had just taken a break from his job at Integral Health Services when he was assaulted by two men on Magazine Road. One of them shot him three times to the chest and left him there to die. Tonight, police say they have that man; he is 20-year-old Devon Banner of a Cedar Street in Belize City for the crime of murder. Today, Supt. Chester Williams the officer in charge of the Crimes Investigation Branch told us the motive was robbery.
ASP Chester Williams, C.I.B. Commander
"Police investigations into the matter so far has led to the arrest of one person in the name of Devon Banner. He ahs subsequently been arrested and charged for the crime of murder in relation to the shooting death of Mr. Arnold. We are still looking for one person in relation to this investigation as our investigation reveals that there were two persons who actually approached the deceased and caused the fatal injuries.
From our investigations, the motive for the killing was robbery. And while yes his attackers may have not relieved him of his items, we believe that that was so because after the shots were fired, they had no time to have retrieved from him the jewelry that they wanted to retrieve. But some of the jewelries found on him were burst, in one instance we found a medal with no chain. So the persons who attacked him did manage to get something from him but not everything what they had wanted. So we believe the motive was robbery.
We do not have any evidence to suggest that yes he put up a fight but we believe that somewhat hesitant to be relieved of his property and that is the reason why he was shot."
In other news, police have also charged 22-year-old Glenford Ferguson for stabbing Koffi Beeks to death on Friday morning in Ladyville.
