Joseph Kee and Taedron Bennett will stand trial for last May's sensational double murder of brothers Phillip and Kevin Brannon. That was the decision handed down today by Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie. She found that there is enough evidence for Bennett and Kee to be tried in the Supreme Court.
The men are defended by attorney Ellis Arnold who accepted the paper committal for Kee but submitted that there wasn't enough evidence against Bennett. Chief Magistrate McKenzie rejected that submission and found that there was a prima facie case against both men. They will likely go on trial in the June session of the Supreme Court.
In addition to two counts of murder each, Bennett and Kee are also charged with 2 counts of attempted murder, 2 counts of dangerous harm, and 2 counts of use of deadly means of harm on Basil Brannon and Mervin Hmes who survived the attack.
The Brannon brothers were slain in front of their home on Albert Street West on the morning of May 13 2006 after the Tanya Stephen's Mother's Day Concert at the City Center. It was at the City Center that the brothers reportedly got into a confrontation. They were followed to their home and gunned down.
Basil Brannon and Mervin Humes were in the car with Phillip and Kevin and both narrowly survived.
Ricky Aguilar was originally charged along with Kee and Bennett but the charges against him were withdrawn by the DPP in December. He left the country the following day.
