If Belmopan was the shining city on a hill, then Mahogany Heights was drawn up and advertised as the city of political promise - the Satellite City, as it was dubbed by the political pitchmen and women. Well, tonight, $87 million later, we can declare that the so called "satellite city" has been declared a village.
It was so declared on April 13th by National Development Minister Mark Espat. The first village council elections will be held on Sunday.
With the $87 million price tag, a figure offered by the DFC audit, Mahogany Heights may be the most expensive village ever. And even with all that money spent, at this time homeowners can still not get title for their properties because of disputed ownership.
