44-year-old food vendor Daniel Gilharry was today charged for pulling a knife on Family Court Magistrate Natalia Carter. It happened yesterday morning in open court.
Carter was the judge in a child custody hearing between Gilharry and his estranged wife, who he is legally separated from. The couple have four children together and the wife had applied for child maintenance of $25 a week for each child which adds up to $400 a month. Add that to $75 a week for his estranged wife and it amounts to $700.
And as Magistrate Carter was reading her decision, Gilharry pulled out a knife from his pants foot and waved it at Magistrate Carter in a threatening manner. He was quickly subdued by court bailiffs who took away the object. he was originally charged with aggravated assault and causing disturbance in a courtroom. Today he was only arraigned on the disturbance in a courtroom charge and he pled guilty. He was fined $500 plus the cost of court.
If you are wondering how he got a knife into the courtroom past court security that are supposed to check for that sort of stuff, well he hid it in a plastic bag in his pants leg.
