It was another perilous weekend on the roadways, and it started on Saturday evening on the Northern Highway. Around 6:00 pm. 38 year old Sandhill resident Ervin Milligan crashed between miles 20 and 21. A police report says he was at the wheel, heading in the direction of Belize City in a Ford Escort when he saw a pedestrian in the road.

The report says that Milligan swerved into the bushes to avoid hitting him. And that's when he was flung from the car, receiving major head and body injuries. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the KHMH. His passenger and cousin, 24-year-old Wayne Grinage was treated and released. Case closed right? Just another road tragedy - but no so fast. Milligan's family members say that they don't think he was driving. His sister Loraine Milligan explained their concern.

Loraine Milligan, Sister of Deceased
"People are saying that he was the driver of the vehicle but so far there wasn't any police at the scene at the time so we cannot say if he was the driver of the vehicle or not.

Well to our belief, we don't believe he was the driver of the vehicle at all because the way how we saw it, the passenger side of the vehicle was

completely damaged and the other side, the driver's side, doesn't have anything happening but the passenger side was really wrecked so that's why we concluded he wasn't the driver of the vehicle you know.

All I want to say is to the other family, which are our cousins, we don't have any envy against them. All we want to know is the truth, what really happened because dead people don't carry no tales so all we want to know is the truth, what really happened. Somebody come and apologized to us because we are not people to be afraid of, we just want the truth about what really happened."

Another complication is that none of the men in the car owned it. Ervin Milligan was a former Chairman of the Sandhill Village Council.
