He is a widely known karaoke deejay but tonight Louis Maskall is just lucky to be alive. The 27 year old was shot on Saturday night by an unknown gunman at the Wilton Cumberbatch Field on Caesar Ridge Road. This morning he told Keith Swift how he cheated death.
Keith Swift Reporting,
Louis Maskall was sitting on these bleachers in the Wilton Cumberbatch Field on Saturday night when he says a young man armed with a gun approached him.
Louis Maskall,
"We were sitting there listening to some music on my phone and across the street a guy came with a white shirt and a blue jersey pants. I really didn't recognize the person and all I heard he said was "do you remember me" and he stuck the gun in my face. Quick response allowed me to hit the gun away and in that process where the gun was being hit away, I got hit in my chest."
The bullet hit Maskall in his right chest and exited through the back. He is hospitalized but it could have been worse. Maskall says that if he didn't knock away the gun - he would probably be dead.
Keith Swift,
You knocked the gun away from this guy, do you think this guy would have pulled the trigger if you hadn't done that?
Louis Maskall,
"Definitely. By the time he said, 'remember me,' I really don't know what allowed me to hit that away. And one of the things is that I didn't think this guy was coming after me because they were kids playing on the basketball court and they are always playing on the court so I thought somebody was playing around."
But it wasn't a joke. Maskall says he didn't recognize the shooter and he doesn't why someone wanted him dead but he did say this.
Louis Maskall,
"Well everybody knows I am no angel. I won't go on TV and say I don't mess with anyone. I am no angel. From the age period from about 16 to 25, I've been in a lot of fistfights and more than likely my mom always told me that guys don't forget and I've been changing my life and it always seems that at the point when you're about to break from being that type of person fighting, that's when something like this happens."
Maskall is listed in a stable condition. Police have made no arrests.
