On September 17, the Supreme Court granted an ex-parte injunction against government, barring it from granting a port license to Mike Feinstein, the developer of the Stake Bank Cruise Terminal. The Port of Belize applied for the injunction because its owners believe that they should be the exclusive recipient of all port revenues.

The court granted the injunction on an interim basis giving government until October the eighth to prove why that injunction should be lifted. But government made no filing and today in court before Justice Minette Hafiz Bertram, the injunction was extended indefinitely.

In a related development, sources tell 7NEWS that the Port of Belize Limited is also initiating proceedings to sue Royal Caribbean Cruise Line for interference in its commercial agreement with the government of Belize. That's after Feinstein told 7NEWS that Royal Caribbean is his partner in the Stake Bank Project. The Port of Belize's position is that through an agreement with government, it is directly entitled to revenues from the Stake Bank Project.

And while all this legal jostling dominates the foreground, 7NEWS is reliably informed that in the background there have been serious and ongoing negotiations between the financiers for Luke Espat's Belize Cruise Terminal and the principal for Stake Bank. But still, those negotiations have not produced a compromise.
