DPP Tells Cops to Charge Father for Son's Death in Fire

On the night of September 30th, two-year-old Raheem Martinez perished when his family’s small home in Independence Village burned down. The small child had been left alone in the 6 by 6 wooden home. Well now, the DPP has advised police that his father is to blame. Remijio Lorenzo Martinez has been charged for causing death by careless conduct. It’s an indictable offence to be heard at the Supreme Court and a more serious charge than child neglect.

So why was the father charged and not the mother Dorla Flores as well? Turns out she had gone out and left him at home babysitting. But he told police he stepped out to buy some food, and that’s when the fire started. Investigators believe it was caused by a mosquito fish coil he left burning.
