He was charged for the attempted murder of his brother in law but before a jury could be selected, today 17-year-old Norman McKenzie pleaded down to the lesser charge of use of deadly means of harm with intent to cause grievous harm. He shot 26 year old Simon Castillo on November 16th of 2006. Castillo was living with McKenzie's sister at the time of the shooting. The disagreement was over a broken lock which Norman McKenzie accused Castillo of breaking. Castillo left Belize and when he returned - that's when he says McKenzie started harassing him. On the day of the shooting, Castillo says that he was chopping his yard at 7 am when McKenzie and two other men approached him. McKenzie allegedly pulled out a gun and Castillo ran, all the way into a neighbor's yard. McKenzie pursued and shot Castillo in the back. In the chase, Hubert Faber was also shot but he requested no court action.

Justice Troadio Gonzalez accepted McKenzie's guilty plea and has reserved sentencing for Friday.
