A Cayo man has been found guilty of molesting a 10-year-old girl. This evening at the Supreme Court, a jury of 9 who had deliberated for less than 2 hours found 37 year old Cayo resident, Raul Anthony Rivero, guilty of one count of carnal knowledge.
On August 6, 2005, a 10-year-old Guatemalan girl accused Rivero of raping her in the early morning as she went to use her outside latrine. In a closed hearing last week, the now 13 year old girl told the court that Rivero grabbed her, took her into her family latrine, tied her hands and then had sex with her against her will. In his defense, Rivero who was undefended denied the allegations saying he was drinking with friends that weekend and no where in the area.
Sentencing is set for February 25.
