A pair of teenaged twins lost their lives in a tragic fire in Georgetown Village this afternoon. At around mid-day police were called to the village where they found a small home engulfed in flames. The door was locked from the outside but inside were female twins – 15-year-old Wincent and Vincent Ramirez – who perished in the blaze. Police are unsure of a cause of the fire but are investigating.
The girls were home alone because their mother was at work on a banana plantation while their father Carlos Ramirez left home at 7:30 this morning to do some errands in the village. He reportedly locked the girls inside the house because, as we understand it, they have mental deficiencies. Ramirez was still in Georgetown at 11:30 this morning when he was alerted and told that his house was on fire. By then it was too late. The remains of the sisters were taken to the Southern Regional Hospital awaiting post mortems.
The father Carlos Ramirez has been questioned by police but has not been charged. Police will forward the case file to the DPP for his direction.
