On Sunday morning at 4:20 am, Corozal police patrolling the area near Libertad Village saw a loaded taxi that darted off when the police appeared. The lawmen set chase but that only lasted for a few miles as the overloaded car barrelled out of control near Calcutta Village, and crashed into a concrete sign on the side of the road.
When police looked inside, they saw driver 62 year old Cyril Wade from Roaring Creek along with 9 Salvadorans, ranging in age from 13 years old to 35 years old. All ten were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police say they had no local immigration stamps. But pending recovery from their injuries, they haven’t been charged yet.
