Tonight 7NEWS understands that the Belize Defence Force is investigating the death of one of its own. This morning Lance Corporal Warren Jeffrey Cho died five days after he was taken out of the Macal River in the Cayo District. Reports are that last Friday night Lance Corporal Cho was drinking with other BDF soldiers at a bar in San Ignacio when it is reported an argument started. According to the Cho family just before their loved one passed away, he told a relative that he had been chased, beaten and then thrown into the water.

Jacqueline Godwin,
Do you believe your brother drowned?

Brother of Deceased,
“No, the way I see it, he was beat up bad. He was beat up bad, he has a twist on his neck and on his body. He was beaten very very bad and it is not just because he drowned or something, it is because he got beaten and thrown in the Macal River.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
What is the Belize Defense Force telling the family?

Brother of Deceased,
“Right now they don’t know nothing about that but we went to investigate about that.”

Benigno Cho, Father of Deceased
“He told my son in law that he got chased, somebody chased him and I heard that they catch him and then beat him and threw him in the river. That is what my son in law told me.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
And that is what your son told you son in law before he passed away?

Benigno Cho,
“Yes.”

Lance Corporal Cho had been with the BDF for three years.
