A security guard lies critical in the KHMH tonight after he was shot during a robbery attempt at a supermarket last night. Shortly after 8:30, 47 year old Phillip Garoy, an employee of J&B’s Security, was on duty at Twinz Supermarket on St. Thomas Street when three men on bicycles pulled up. One of the young men pulled out a gun at the store’s owner. That’s when Garoy jumped in. The robber then shot him in the center of his neck. The men then fled empty handed. Garoy was taken to the hospital where he is listed as critical. A representative of his security company told us about the report they received.
Joseph Meighan, J&B Security
“We received a call at the office that there was a shooting at Twinz Supermarket on St. Thomas Street and he was posted at that location at that time. On arrival there the owner had taken him to the hospital already and we received information that three guys went to the store, attacked the father of Robert, whose the actual owner, and the guard seeing that, went to help the father and there was a struggle that ensued between the guard and the robber and accidentally the gun went off and the guys fled. That’s as much as I know so far.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
Whose gun accidentally went off?
Joseph Meighan,
“The robber’s gun.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
Where was Mr. Garoy injured?
Joseph Meighan,
“It is in the neck, somewhere around the vicinity here.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
You had an opportunity to see him a while ago, how is it looking for you?
Joseph Meighan,
“Well I am not a doctor but he is not responding. I can say he is on life support and we are wishing him the best. It is a good thing that the cameras caught somebody running, while the struggle was ensued between Mr. Garoy and the robber. So we have some sort of lead as to who it was. He is a very calm, quiet individual. You never see him out on the streets, he is a very nice quiet guy so it is unfortunate that it happened to him.”
It’s important to note that Garoy did not have a weapon on him.
