And while the young men accused of the grenade attack are on remand tonight, that is only one small worry put aside – because tonight there are 15 more illegal guns on the streets. Today police confirmed what we first reported last night about the burglary at William Quan on Albert Street. It occurred between 8 pm on Wednesday and 9 am on Thursday. The only thing is that while our information was that 8 guns were stolen – a check of the stock has confirmed that 15 were stolen.
The break down is as follows: 8 maverick brand pump action 12 gauge shotguns valued at $8,800; 2 Mossberg Brand pump action 12 gauge shots valued at $2,400; and 5 Hutchinson and Richardson brand 12 gauge shotguns valued at $2,500. Also stolen were a Sony laptop and $830 in cash. Police say the circumstances surrounding the theft are suspicious – because there were no signs of forced entry into William Quan. Police Press Officer Clemente Palacio explained the angle they are investigating it from.
Clemente Palacio, Police Press Officer
“Police visited the scene and there was no sign of forced entry at the premises. So the natural thing for police to do is to question those who were working at the establishment and of course the suspects, the list of suspects seems to be murky at this time. Because there was no sign of forced entry, the logical thing for police to do is to question those who work at the establishment.”
Keith Swift,
Any obvious suspects?
Clemente Palacio,
“No suspects at this time. The investigation is open at this time.”
Keith Swift,
How concerned is the Police Department about this?
Clemente Palacio,
“Well very concerned and hence we are indulging in a very very intensive investigation into this matter.”
And while for William Quan, it may be the loss of $18,000 in cash and merchandise – for the streets 15 more guns in circulation is a law enforcement emergency.
