Earlier we showed you the two teenaged brothers charged for Sunday’s deadly grenade explosion on Mayflower Street. And while the threat of explosive gang warfare haunts the city, there is some hope because right now other teenagers and adults rallying for peace. It’s happening in front of Youth for the Future at the foothill of the Bel-China Bridge. Diane Finnegan is the director and she says it is all about making and taking a stand for peace. We spoke first to Greta Jenkins – the rally coordinator.

“We’re going to have a peace rally out here tonight and we want to encourage and ask all the young people who are listening to this interview to come out. You can bring out your entire family, this is an event that the entire family can come out and enjoy.”

“We’ll have Berne here, we’ll have DJ Dalla, we’ll have Alfrain Supal, we’ll also have Tony G from Krem, and singers and players. It is going to be fun.”

“It is really to send out a message to our young people that this is healthy way of living their lives through positive messages in music, from both our international artists and our local artists, that the path which many of young people have chosen right now, all it is doing is destroying, it is destroying their lives.”
The rally started at 5 and runs until 10 tonight. There will be various deejays and performers including famed deportee Berne Velasquez and community activist Emerson Guild.
