On Saturday at least three men had their bicycles stolen by a pair of thieves Belize City police believe have been holding up unsuspecting victims. That latest victim is sixty four year old Emeterio Lanza. Around three fifteen on Saturday morning Lanza, who is a mechanic, was heading to work when he was viciously attacked by two young men. Lanza was riding on Central American Boulevard towards Faber’s Road Lanza when he was struck to the back of the head with a two by four. He told Jacqueline Godwin it’s the first time that he’s been attacked like this.

Emeterio Lanza, Robbery Victim
“Two guys came and one from the front grabbed the bike and the one at the back hit me in my head and he went with the bike.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
They didn’t say anything?

Emeterio Lanza,
“Nothing and a taxi man was coming up the same time and he hollered at them because they wanted to jack him too and he called the police and they came and they picked me up and took me to the hospital.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
That’s a nasty gash you got to the back of your head, what is the doctor saying?

Emeterio Lanza,
“He said it was a dangerous hit. It took half an hour before it stopped bleeding.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
How many stitches did you get?

Jacqueline Godwin,

Emeterio Lanza,
“Yes I am in pain, its swelled. Now and again it hots me.”

The assailants have been described as one person known only as Matura and the other as Campari. The police would only say that they are looking for a suspect who is well known to them.
