One of the vehicles used in Friday’s daring robbery of the payroll from the National Fishermen Cooperative was stolen. As we reported, at 10:30 on Friday morning nineteen year old Joseph Meighan Jr. and a security guard from J&B Security Company left Alliance Bank with a bag of money. They were enroute to the National Fishermen Cooperative’s office on North Front Street to deliver the payroll. But the money never got there because at the corner of Freetown Road and Hunter’s Lane the J&B employees who were travelling in a maroon Toyota Camry were ambushed. A green Saturn blocked the vehicle at one end and a white Geo Tracker at the other.
Two gunmen emerged and opened fire. The two J&B employees ran for their lives and the gunmen grabbed the bag of money and fled. Police have not disclosed how much money was in the bag but it is rumoured to be in the tens of thousands.
The Geo Tracker belonged to 41 year old Hadie Usher. She told police that on Friday morning between 6:35 and 9:45 someone stole her 1997 white Geo tracker from a location on New Road. It was recovered on Saturday morning with no damages – not even to the ignition switch. Police continue their investigations.
