A Lucky Chinese Grocer

A Chinese grocer is lucky to be alive after an attempted armed robbery at his store this afternoon. It happened at around 3:00 pm at “Inde” Store which is at the corner of Vernon and Lakeview Streets.

The store-owner told police that two armed men came up and demanded money. But he ducked beneath his counter and they fired a shot, which hit a shelf at the back of the store. Witnesses tell police that the gunmen then ran off unto Lakeview Street and through an alley into Mayflower Street. They left empty handed. Police have not made any arrests.
