Eighteen year old Carmelita Village resident Floyd Hyde and twenty one year old sand hill village resident Shawn Edwards are in police lock down tonight facing charges of aggravated robbery after they were caught by police.

Around ten on Monday morning the victim twenty three year old Raymond Petzold was standing at the corner of Peter Ashton Street and Albert Hoy Street in Belama Phase Two when two men rode up, pointed a gun at him and demanded that he hand over everything. Petzold handed the robbers one thick Cuban link silver chain, a silver ring and a pair of silver earrings.

Police responded quickly and caught Floyd Hyde and Shawn Edwards. Today however only eighteen year old Floyd Hyde was escorted over to Belize City Magistrate’s Court. According to reports, while Hyde was being questioned about the Belama robbery and the weapon used in that crime Hyde reportedly reached inside of his tennis shoe and took out a point thirty two pistol and six live rounds of ammunition.

While investigations have not yet established whether or not the gun was used in the hold up Floyd Hyde was nevertheless charged with keeping unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to six years in jail but was given an additional two years to run consecutively. Why? Court reports are it is not the first time that Floyd Hyde has been in trouble with the law.

In 2006, he was arrested and charged for again unlicensed firearm and ammunition and he was fined five thousand dollars each. But Floyd Hyde never paid the money and so today for that offence, he gets to serve a couple more years behind bars.
