According to the Police Press Officer Clement Palacio they are concerned about what is happening but at this time they do not know why all three young men were killed.

Clement Palacio, Press Officer
“Well the Police Department is very concerned and of course we take into consideration the concerns of the citizenry in general. That is the primary focus and to this end the Police Department will be vigorously applying all aspects of law enforcement, throughout the country of Belize.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
I know since the first homicide, that is the death of Clarence Leslie, the police have been working vigorously as you say in trying to solve all three homicides. At this point do the police believe all three murders are connected?

Clement Palacio,
“Well we know that during the summer time and based upon the crime analysis has often been made, summer time is the time where there seems to be an escalation in these kinds of murders. Because of that concern, there have been numerous efforts made at looking at people at risk youths in general, gang members, trying to coordinate a kind of dialogue with them so that they can ease the kind of rivalries that generally result in these murders.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
But do the police believe that all three murders are connected?

Clement Palacio,
“Well I don’t want to comment as to the…because since it is an ongoing investigation I don’t want to comment and prejudge as to the motive of these murders. They are ongoing investigations and of course we know the difficulty that currently exist. Therefore within the next couple days we are going to get a clearer picture as to the motive for these crimes.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
Anyone detained for all three incidents?

Clement Palacio,
“For the first murder, that is the one Clarence Leslie, two persons have been detained but they have not been charged and they are only suspects at this time. Police are looking at all possible connections and leads and motives but as to this moment that we are speaking, there has been no definitive motive for these murders.”
