The H1N1 virus may not have been in the headlines news for some time but that doesn’t mean that the threat has disappeared. In fact, tonight, the Ministry of Health is quite anxiously awaiting the test results for a cluster of suspect cases from the Corozal Free Zone. But for the time being, there have been no confirmed cases of H1N1 in Belize.
The Ministry of Health is waiting for the results of fifteen outstanding samples sent to CAREC last Monday. Those results still have not returned because CAREC is swamped with samples form other Caribbean countries that have confirmed cases of H1N1. In the meantime you are being reminded to wash your hands regularly and use disposable tissue when possible to cover nose and mouth when you cough and sneeze. And of course if you display any flu like symptom visit your nearest health centre or health care provider.
